MRS TAYLOR: I can't do that, Kim. I've already turned my back on one child in my life. I nearly did it again. I'm not going to.
Kim doesn't understand.
MRS TAYLOR: Somewhere in this world, you have a sister. I called her Karen. She'll be 27 now.
Mrs Taylor says she's tried so hard to forget, but she can't. She always wonders where she is now and what she looks like.
Kim accuses her mother of being a hypocrite and she agrees. When Kim's mother got pregnant, her parents turned their back and she had to give her baby away. She tells Kim that she wanted the world for her and didn't want her to have the same heartache. She tried to protect Kim, but instead she drove her away. Mrs Taylor starts to cry.

Max tries to say he's already hired someone, but Maria says casually that that's not true! Max splutters even more and says that women aren't designed to be plumbers! Terri tells Max to wait until he sees her work.

Max says that she did OK this afternoon, but is still doubtful. Jim says that women are doing all sorts of jobs nowadays. He tells Max that if Terri doesn't work out, he could get his son's mate, Peter Armstrong. He thinks he should give Terri a chance though.
Max says he'll chuck the lot at Terri and see how she does!
Maria and Terri come in with the shopping. Jim tells Maria that he's sorry he can't make Danny's party. Maria puts the kettle on while Max continues to glower.

She gives him a nice watch to replace the one he sold to help Kim. She says she knows that they've moved a long way away, but she hopes Scott will come and visit them.
Kim tells Scott that he's the best friend she'll ever have. She kisses him on the cheek.
Jim comes in and Mrs Taylor sings Scott's praises to him. Jim says he's known that all along. (Aw!)

The interviewer has had a look at Shane's medical record and says it shouldn't be a problem. The interviewer is a bit concerned that Shane will find the job a come-down after training for the Olympics. But Shane says he just wants a job - he likes driving and getting out and about. The interviewer explains that the hours could be quite long, but there's a chance for overtime, and paid holiday too so the conditions are quite good, really. The interviewer offers Shane the job - he can start tomorrow. He tells Shane to call at the suppliers for a uniform.
Ramsays
Max is ringing around trying to get a replacement plumber's mate - he's completely stuck without a driver. He can't get anyone. While he's on the phone, Terry comes in through the back door. She wants to know why Max sacked her - why did he get rid of her. She threatens to take him to the Equal Opportunity Board. This doesn't go down well with Max, and he starts yelling at Terry that he knows she has a husband and that she should keep away from Shane.

Terry says she only kissed Shane, but Max says he's fed up of living in a permissive society. Terry says that Max shouldn't judge her by his standards. He rants at her to get out and to keep away from Shane too.
Outside the Ramsays
Terry is stalking down the drive as Shane arrives home. She tells him they'll talk about it at dinner.
Ramsays
Shane comes in and asks Max what's going on - why did he fire Terry? Max says that she refused an out-of-town job and therefore had a bad attitude. Shane says it's no wonder Terry was upset - but he'll hear her side of it tonight at dinner.
Max tells Shane that Terry is married. Shane says that they're just two friends going out to dinner. Terry's personal life is her own business, not Max's. Max forbids Shane from seeing Terry again - he could make a real mess of his life getting hooked up with a married woman. Shane says it's tough luck - he's going out with Terry anyway!
The Bank
Julie and Marilyn are gossiping about the new bank manager - they haven't met him yet.
Julie is sent on an errand to the manager's office - it turns out to be the man from the street! He introduces himself as Philip Martin and tells Julie not to worry about their previous meeting. He tells her that he wants to make the bank a pleasant, friendly place of work. He wants to get to know all his staff well so that they can work well together.
Julie looks at a picture of Phil's children - Michael, who is seven, and Debbie, who is nine. Apparently they live with their mother in the country. He asks after Julie's family and she explains their family setup. They chat about hobbies as well - Julie tells him that she likes historical novels. They are getting on very well. When they've finished their conversation, Philip asks her to send Marilyn in next.
At the counter, Marilyn grills Julie about Mr Martin. She tells Marilyn to go in to meet him.
Robinsons
Jim is looking at some plans on the kitchen table when Max comes in for a bit of chat. He starts going on about Shane and Terry. He says Daphne may have been a stripper, but at least she was single(!) Jim reasons that Shane and Terry might not be getting involved. He asks if Terry lives with her husband or if she's separated. Max doesn't know. Jim says the best thing Max can do is to not get involved. They can't live their lives for their children - they have to make their own mistakes.
Jim thinks Max is using Terry as an excuse - Max hasn't forgiven Maria for being unfaithful to him all those years ago. Max admits that he's never forgotten it.
Outside the bank
Julie is heading to the shopping centre after work when Philip Martin offers her a lift.
Robinsons
Shane is ranting to Jim about Max's attitude earlier that day. Jim recommends giving Max a few days to calm down - he might take Terry back on his own.
Jim tells Shane that Max does everything for Shane's sake - he just tries a bit to hard sometimes. He can be a bit over-protective. Shane sort of understands where Max is coming from, and says he'll probably be the same when he has his own kids.
They talk about Danny's paternity - Shane is still keeping it to himself, as is Jim. Shane doesn't think they can keep it from Danny forever, though - but how do you bring it up in conversation?
The phone rings and it's Julie. She tells Jim that she'l be late home for dinner - she's going out for drinks with the new bank manager.
A place that serves drinks
Shane and Terry are having a drink and chatting about his new job. Shane also tells her to give Max some space - he'll get over it in a couple of days: Max is OK once you get to know him. Terry explains about her marriage. She's never told anyone before. She married young and it was a disaster right from the start. Her husband used to live off her wages as an apprentice, then he went into criminality - house-breaking and the like. After a while he robbed the Pacific Bank. Terry tells Shane that Inglis is her maiden name - her husband's name is Gordon Miller. It's the same Gordon Miller that was in Shane's accident. She didn't tell anyone because she really needed the job with Max.
Shane is very shocked, but says he won't tell anyone. Terry asks if this has put Shane off her. He says he doesn't know - it's a lot to take in. Shane says he's confused and will need time to think. They decide to give dinner a miss - suddenly Shane hasn't got an appetite anymore.
Posh house, the following morning
Shane has turned up on the first day of his new job. He's driving a posh and rather prickly woman called Mrs Fielding in a large car. She tells him they're going to Canberra. Shane looks very surprised, but heads off.
Ramsay Street
Shane calls at his house to get a few things for the trip. Mrs Fielding is talking on a car phone (very posh indeed back in 1985!) She can't get through though, and comes into the house to use the Ramsay's telephone.
Ramsays
Max is mocking Shane's new uniform and asking about his date with Terry while Shane is gathering up his things.
Shane is surprised when Mrs Fielding follows him into the house. She asks to use the phone and rings up about the broken car phone. She gives orders to fire the bloke who repaired it! Then she tells the person on the other end of the phone to book a hotel room for two under the name Shane Ramsay. Max hears this and looks shocked.

Ramsays

Ramsays
Maria asks Max if he's found anyone to replace Terry yet. He hasn't.
MAX: I met Shane's new boss today. A woman!
MARIA: How awful(!) What's she like?
When Maria hears the name Fielding, she says she thinks she's read something about them. But she can't remember the details. Anyway, she is distracted by Max going on a sexist rant about women in the workforce(!) Maria says she still wants to get a job - she's got more free time, now that the boys are almost grown up. Maria says if she gets remarried she'll need to support herself.
They start having words about their separation and Maria says that Max was the one who walked out - he took the easy way. Max says that any man would have done the same, given a promiscuous, lying wife. Maria looks upset and Max leaves.
Bank - Manager's Office
Julie brings Phil Martin some figures and he's pleased because she's brought them early. Julie says he's doing a really good job so far. They chat about their personal lives and he asks Julie if she has a boyfriend. Phil is still staying in a hotel. He starts reading the figures and is distracted when Julie asks him about his own family.
JULIE: Well, I'd better head back before I get into trouble with the new bank manager!
PHIL: Yeah I know, I've heard he's a bit of a monster!
Phil asks after Julie's car and she says it's still being serviced. He offers her a lift home tonight and Julie gratefully accepts.
JULIE: Well, if you insist.
PHIL: I do. Now get back to work before I give you the sack(!)
They both laugh.
Robinsons
Jim comes in and finds Paul there. He asks Paul if he's still going out with Gloria. He hasn't - she and her mum have moved to Adelaide to get away from Charlie. Paul misses her, but there's nothing to be done. Gloria has got a good job and she's trying to get her mum working too, so she won't have anything to be dependent on Charlie for. Jim says he's proud of Paul for how he handled the situation.
Ramsays
Terry knocks on the door and Maria answers it. Maria apologises for Max's behaviour. Terry has come round to see Shane, but he's gone away to Canberra with his new boss, Mrs Fielding. Terry is a bit surprised that Shane is with a woman, but Maria says it's a business relationship only. Maria tells her not to give up on Shane.
Robinsons
Lucy comes in wearing a dress and asks Jim what he thinks. He tells her it has a certain "je ne sais quoi" which just confuses Lucy. (She's carrying one of those plastic bags that you clip together yourself! Aw!!)
Lucy explains that she needs a long dress for dress up day at school tomorrow. She doesn't like this dress though - she thinks it's very old-fashioned. Jim suggests borrowing one of Julie's dresses, but she says she doubts Julie will let her.
Lucy goes into the living room.
SCOTT: You look stupid.
LUCY: Yeah, I know.
Lucy asks Scott to asks Julie if she'll lend her one of her dresses. Scott says there's no point him asking - she'll still say no.
LUCY: It's not fair.
SCOTT: That's life!
Ramsay Street
Phil is dropping Julie off and she thanks him for the lift. She looks a bit nervous and then invites Phil to come in for a drink. But he says he's got a lot of work to do. He drives off. Julie looks rather disappointed.
Robinsons
Lucy is at the window saying to Scott that she can see people kissing. But she's just making it up - although she says Julie was in the car with a man!
Julie comes in and Lucy and Scott grill her. But she says she just got a lift home with the bank manager.
LUCY: Is he good-looking?!
Julie tells her to mind her own business and goes into the kitchen.
JULIE: Lucy's being very childish.
JIM: Children often are.
Since Helen is out, Julie offers to take over making the dinner. She tells Jim about the new bank manager and says she hasn't had a lot to do with him on a personal level. Jim is confused and says that he thought Julie went out for a drink with him the other night! Julie says that was just a friendly gesture.
Ramsays, the following morning
Shane comes back from Canberra and says Mrs Fielding is a real slave-driver. She's apparently a complete workaholic. She never talks about her husband though.
Maria says that Terry has been around. Shane says he was rude to her the other night, but Maria says that Terry isn't holding a grudge - she came round to see him yesterday. She gives him Terry's note.
Robinsons
Julie is making breakfast for everyone. She is humming and appears in an excellent mood.
PAUL:(to Jim) What's brought all this on?
JIM: I dunno mate. But whatever you do, try not to spoil it!
Paul asks Julie to sew a button on his shirt and she readily agrees. Paul looks stunned.
SCOTT: You don't think Julie's caught some terrible disease, do you, Dad?
JIM: I wouldn't be too sure mate...but if she has I hope there's no cure for it!
Jim advises Lucy to strike while the iron's hot and ask Julie if she can borrow a dress.
SCOTT: I bet you two dollars she won't.
JIM: You're on!
In the living room, Lucy sidles up to Julie and explains about the dress up day at school. She asks nicely if she could borrow one of Julie's dresses. Julie tells her that as long as she looks after it, Lucy can chose any one she wants from her wardrobe. Lucy is very pleased and goes off to look.
JIM:(to Scott) I'll deduct it from your pocket money!
Smugglers Bar
Terry and Shane have had lunch. Shane says he thought about her all the time in Canberra. Terry says she has to tell Shane everything about her husband. She isn't still involved with him, but when she left he went crazy and threatened to kill her. She ran away and thought it'd be safe to come back to the city now. But she's been getting some threatening phone calls. She wants Shane to know what he's getting into.
Shane suggests that Terry leaves her flat and moves into Des's spare room. He'll ask Des about it. Besides, he likes the idea of Terry living almost next door.
A road
Shane is driving his employer's limo and gives Terry a lift home. On the radio, they hear:
"Convicted bank robber, Gordon Miller, has just escaped from a police van..."
He had been due to do ten years for armed robbery.
SHANE: Your husband!

Recap
Shane has got a new job as a chauffeur.
Shane and Terry hear on the radio that Teryr's husband has escaped from jail.
Outside Terry's flat
Terry is panicking, saying that her husband will come after her. Shane says he'll take her straight to Des's, and he'll pick up her stuff himself.
Des's
Shane introduces Terry to Des.
SHANE: Des, this is Terry, a very good friend of mine. Terry, this is Des, a not so good friend of mine.
Shane awkwardly asks Des if he'd like to rent his spare room. Des says that given the state of his finances, he may have to rent his own room and sleep in the garden! Des is a bit surprised at Terry's request to stay, but he suggests a month's trial at $50 a week. Des is surprised that Terry wants to move in without even seeing the room. Shane tells Des that Terry has had a prowler hanging around her flat, so she wants to away for a bit. Des says if there were any prowlers round his house, he'd get Daphne to scare them away(!) so Terry will be safe.
Daphne comes in at that moment and is introduced to Terry. She is surprised to hear that there's a new housemate, but at least her rent will be reduced a bit. Daphne is cross that Des didn't consult her though.
Robinsons
Julie is still in a very good mood as she clears away the dinner dishes.
HELEN: (whispering to Lucy) You still haven't told her what happened to the dress you borrowed.
LUCY: But she's going to murder me!
Apparently Lucy got green ink all down the front of it.
Jim asks Julie how she's getting on with the new bank manager. She sings his praises and is evasive about them going out for a drink together.
Jim and Helen send Lucy to go to confess to Julie about the dress. She reluctantly does so. Julie takes it rather calmly - she tells Lucy to be more careful, but lets her off otherwise.
Des's
Shane is telling Des about Max sacking Terry for being a woman. Daphne is still sulking in the kitchen. When Shane hugs Terry, she sulks even more.
Shane heads off, saying he'll get the rest of Terry's things tomorrow. When Terry has gone off for a shower, Shane asks Daphne why she's sulky. Daphne says she just would have liked Des to tell her before moving someone in.
Des gets a bit suspicious about the prowler, but Shane says it's just some weirdo who's been hanging round.
The Bank
Julie is helping an old man at the counter - she is being very patient with him. Marilyn is rather shocked by Julie's new attitude and asks if she's done something with her hair. Just then, Phil calls Julie into her office.
Manager's Office
Phil tells Julie that a large problem has come off and he needs her help to sort it out. It turns out he wants her to help him choose some new blinds - he's found a unit to rent. Julie laugh and asks what the other colours are in the room. She looks through the catalogue and picks one out.
The Bank
Julie comes out of the office and Des teases her, wondering if she's been offered another lift home(!)
Robinsons
Daphne has come round to have a moan to Helen about Des letting Terry move in. Helen thinks Des should have spoken to Daphne first. They chat about Terry. Daphne says she seems very nice, but a bit nervous and jumpy.
Helen says she thinks Daphne is jealous - she's used to running the house the way she wants it. In some circumstances women can always be petty and bitchy, but they have to rise above it.
Helen asks Daphne how to get green ink out of a white dress(!)
Des's
Terry is pacing round the house, peeping out of the windows. She puts the window lock down then sits restlesslyon the sofa. She jumps when the telephone rings.
Terry answers the phone and it's the wrong number.
Outside a mansion
Shane is polishing the Mercedes. The gardener comes over to chat to him about working for Mrs Fielding. They agree she is a bit of a tyrant. The gardener has never met her husband, and he's been there a couple of months. Apparently Mrs Fielding was once her husband's secretary and married him for the money. Now she's got her hooks into his company as well - she seems to be the only one running it now.
Just then, Mrs Fielding comes out and tells Shane to drie her to a private hospital.
Des's
Daphne comes in and gives Terry a bit of a fright. Daphne tells Terry that she's sorry for being off with her - she doesn't want her to move out. But she's over it now (apart from still being angry with Des!). Just then a car backfires outside and Terry jumps.
Private Hospital
Shane and Mrs Fielding arrive at the hospital. She tells Shane to take the rest of the day off and come back at 6.30pm. But he mustn't come into the hospital - if he does, he's fired.
Robinsons
Des and Paul are having a cup of tea and chatting about his new tenant. Des says that Shane has already taked his claim to her. Des is coming along to a barbecue that the airline is having tonight.
Lucy comes in late from school and Paul teases her that she's having an affair with a boy in school.
DES: Hey Lucy. Have I ever told you that I'm going to marry you when you grow up?
LUCY: Several times, but I think it would be a bit more polite to ask rather than tell.
PAUL: The lady's got a point!
Des gets down on one knee
DES: Lucy, will you marry me when you grow up?
LUCY: No!
DES: Ah...well in that case, I'm just going to have to shoot myself.
He decides to wait until after the barbecue though(!)
Des's
Shane comes round with more of Terry's stuff. Des tells him he's going out to a barbecue with some of Paul's work mates.
Tery tells Shane that she's over the jitters now. Shane has got most of her stuff, and some letters as well. Amongst the letters is a note from her husband which reads, "YOU'RE DEAD!"

Recap
Mrs Fielding's husband dies.
Shane stays at Mrs Fielding's overnight. Max isn't pleased.
Lucy sees a man with a gun through her binoculars, but Helen doesn't believe her.
The man is hiding in Des's house. Lucy and Daphne are oblivious. He hides behind the central pillar with his gun.
Des's
Luckily the phone rings at that moment and Daphne answers it. Daphne tells Lucy that she's going back to stripping. Daphne remembers where the pictures are and shows Lucy. They decide to take them over to show Helen. The man is still there.
Robinsons
Helen is painting when Lucy comes in with the Japanese postcards. Daphne and Helen have a coffee and chat about her going back to her old job. She says she's getting on a bit better with Terry, but admits that she's very jealous at Terry going out with Shane.
Daphne asks Helen if she thinks she'll ever get married again. She's not sure. Lucy calls Helen to the window - the man is getting back in his car. By the time Helen comes, the man has driven off. Lucy goes to write it all down in her notebook.
Bottom of Ramsay Street
THe man pulls his car up and waits for Terry, smirking. He puts the gun in the glove compartment.
Max's bedsit
Shane calls round to see Max. He tells Max that Mrs Fielding's husband died yesterday. Max is preoccupied - he still hasn't found an apprentice. Shane says he shouldn't have fired Terry and suggests he gets down the job centre quick.
Bottom of Ramsay Street
Gordon sees Terry coming, but luckily Jim passes as that moment and calls out to Terry. He's really mad to have missed his chance.
Ramsays
Maria asks Terry if it's true that she's married. She says she's trying to get a divorce. She is evasive when Maria asks about her husband, but says she's very fond of Shane. Maria says she won't make things difficult for her and Shane - she understands that marriages go wrong.
Maria tells Terry to ask Max for the wages he owes her. She says that underneath it all, Max is really a very kind and sensitive person. Terry looks doubtful(!)
Job Centre
Max has come to enquire after a plumber's apprentice. Apparently they've already sent Max four people, and they tell him he should be more tolerant(!) Max takes offence and storms off.
Bottom of Ramsay Street
Scary man Gordon is still in the car waiting for Teryr. He sees her crossing the street, but Daphne is just getting home, giving Terry cover.
Des's
Daphne tells Terry off for not locking the back door this morning. She apologises but thinks Daphne is annoyed for a different reason - Shane. Daphne denies it but Terry says she can see that Daphne is still interested. Daphne insists that what she and Shane had going is over.
Terry asks Daphne if she can borrow her car to go and pick up her wages. Daphne reluctantly agrees.
Ramsays
Danny is moaning about school and how it is inhibiting his thought(!) There's a knock at the door and it's a woman with a suitcase called Wendy. Apparently Maria's sister Anna told her to call in. Maria hasn't received a letter, but offers her a cup of tea anyway.
Danny and Wendy chat - Wendy says she doesn't know how long she's here for. Danny invites her to stay with them! Maria agrees rather awkwardly (and who can blame her - who the heck is Wendy?!)
Robinsons
Lucy is still insisting that she saw a man with a gun. Jim is reading the paper - Gordon Miller has apparently been seen all over Australia. Lucy looks at the photo in the newspaper and says it was definitely the man she saw. Scott looks out of the window and pretends to see the bloke. But it's just Terry and Daphne approaching the car.
Ramsay Street
Terry is in the driving seat and Daphne waves her off. Scary man Gordon follows her in his car.
Ramsays
Shane and Maria are playing chess. Scott comes in looking for Danny, but he's out with Wendy. They chat about Lucy's project and Scott says Lucy is making a lot of things up. He mentions the bank robber story and Shane gets very worried and scary music plays. He says that Lucy could be telling the truth. He rushes off to see Terry.
Des's
Shane runs in looking for Terry. He asks Daphne where she is. He rushes off to Max's place to intercept her.
A road
Gordon Miller is following Terry, but she's oblivious to him. She eventually notices him in her mirror though. Shane races after them in Max's plumbing van. Terry pulls up outside Max's bedsit and rushes into Max's flat. Gordon Miller follows, putting the gun in the blt of his trousers.
Max's bedsit
Terry bashes the door down and tells Max that her husband is going to kill him and he's outside. Max goes out, but Gordon is there with his gun and tells Max to get inside.
Shane pulls up and races into the flat.
Inside the bedsit, Max has a look of thunder on his face, but can't do anything. Gordon tells Terry that he's waited a long time to kill her. Luckily Shane comes in at that moment and surprises them, and Gordon drops the gun. Max picks it up.
GORDON: You were in court. You're the diving bloke, in the accident.
SHANE: That's right.
MAX: And I'm his father. You've got a lot to answer for, mate.
Max tells Shane and Terry to go outside.
GORDON: What are you going to do?
MAX: What do you think?

Max's bedsit
Shane tries to calm Max down - he tells him to call the police and let them handle it. Max says he'll call the police later - he's got a few things to get out of his system first - if it weren't for this bloke Shane would be going for an Olympic medal.
Just then, there's a knock at the door and Shane answers it. It's an old man from next door. He's worried about the noise, but Shane reassures him saying it's only a family quarrel.
Shane comes back in and manages to calm Max down. He eventually puts the gun down and tells Shane and Terry to call the cops.

Max, Maria, Danny, Terry, Shane and Wendy are having a post mortem. Shane invites Terry to stay for dinner and Max enthusiastically agrees. He even offers to go out for more food(!)
Danny asks Wendy to come down to the shop.
The Bank
Des asks Julie how her car is. Julie tells him to stay out of it. Des says Julie is walking on thin ice, but Julie says she and Phil are just friends and it's none of Des's business. Just then, Phil invites Julie into his office.
Manager's Office
Phil tels Julie that people are talking about them - the staff at the bank. Phil says maybe they do have a point - in future Julie should get a lift with someone else. He says he likes her company, but he's worried about her reputation. Julie can't see what the big deal is - they're not doing anything wrong. She wants to know the real reason. Phil admits that he finds her very attractive - he thinks he's falling in love with her, and he can't let it happen because he's married. He wants to protect Julie. He doesn't think it can work - and it's too big a risk. Even if he divorced, his family situation would be a mess for a very long time.
Julie starts to cry and says Phil is the only person who takes her seriously.
PHIL: Well...are you willing to risk having dinner with me tomorrow night?
JULIE: Yes.
He hands her his hankerchief.
The Bank
Des asks Julie what Phil wanted, but she tells him to mind his own business. She asks Des to give her a lift home tonight.
Ramsays
Danny and Wendy have come back. They chat about Terry and her husband. Danny boasts about Ramsay Street being named after his grandfather.
Later at the Ramsays
Everyone is eating dinner and getting on very well. Shane offers to walk Terry home, but Max asks her for a private word first. In the lounge, Max tells Terry that he's sorry for everything he said - he's been really unfair to her. He can quite see why she wanted to get away from her pig of a husband and find some decent bloke. Terry says that her divorce will be coming around soon. Also, Max says he knows he fired her, but he'd like her to come back and work for him.
TERRY: I'd be delighted, Mr Ramsay.
(They shake hands)
MAX: Hey listen. Isn't it about time you started calling me Max?
Des's
Terry says she can't live at Des's - what will happen when they find out about Gordon? Shane says they will be OK about it. Shane says maybe he and Terry should form a club - "People who nearly got killed by Gordon Miller"! Terry is sad that Gordon destroyed Shane's career. Shane admits that it has really hurt him - he did want to try for they Olympics. But he's had to put it behind him now, and Terry must too.
Later at Des's
Terry is feeling a bit better now, even though she'll have to go to court and give evidence. Shane laughs when he thinks of Max giving evidence to!
Des comes in and Shane leaves Terry to tell him about her dramatic day.
Ramsays
Max thinks Wendy is a bit young for a mate of Anna's. Danny has taken to her, anyway. Max wonders what's happened to Shane. Maria gives Max some messages. She tells Max she still wants to get a job. He isn't keen. But he says he'll take her out to tea tomorrow and they can talk about it.
Shane arrives and heads straight out to give Max a lift home.
In the living room, Danny and Wendy are listening to music. Wendy asks Danny if he can wag school tomorrow. She's not in school herself, she says she left last year. Danny says he's quite keen to go to University. He says that Max runs his own porcelain company(!) They talk about his parents, and Danny gets a bit upset when Wendy says that Maria could marry someone else. Wendy says it's great to meet someone sophisticated like Danny(!) She asks Danny to take her to a nightclub. He isn't keen - they're underage. He offers to take her out to dinner instead though. Suddenly, Wendy starts kissing him.

DANNY: You must have a good memory!

In the living room, Wendy tries to get Danny to take her to a pub in town. He isn't keen because they're underage.
Maria is just heading out and Danny asks her for some money. She gives him $10. He says there's not much chance of living it up on $10!
Maria tells Helen quietly that she's rather skint - she wants to get a job, but Max still won't let her. Helen thinks it's only pride that's stopping Max making up with her.
Just then, Max arrives, and hustles Maria into a taxi.
Robinsons
Julie is getting dressed up to go out to dinner. Paul mocks her for going to so much trouble. Julie tells him that she's going out with the new bank manager - Phil Martin. Just then, there's a knock at the door and Paul answers it to Phil. He invites him in while Julie rushes off to finish getting ready.
Paul makes polite smalltalk with Phil, then Julie comes back and introduces Helen. He tells Julie that he's expecting an important phonecall, so he's had to cancel the restaurant - but he'll cook for her at his place.
Paul decides to nip over to Des's to get the gossip on Julie and Phil!
Des's
Paul joins Des on his sofa and starts grilling him about the bank. He tells Des that Julie has gone out with Phil tonight - she was all dressed up. Des looks a bit concerned. He tells Paul that Phil is alright though. Paul thinks it's odd for the bank manager to be moving in on the junior staff. Des agrees - especially when the bank manager is married!
High-rise block
Phil is just finishing his phonecall. He offers Julie another drink and they make smalltalk about their families and Gordon Miller.
Des's
Paul is stunned that Julie is knowingly going out with a married man. Des says that Phil is separated from his wife. Paul is even more surprised to hear that Phil has two kids! Des says he's really worried about Julie - both she and Phil are heading towards trouble. He says if Head Office find out it'll be explosive. Paul says he'll ask Jim to have a word. Des tells him to leave it a bit in case it's a crush that'll blow over.
Downmarket Pizza Place
Danny and Wendy are having a quick meal - he couldn't afford the other restaurant! Wendy isn't very impressed, but gets over it quite quickly.
A nice restaurant
Max and Maria are having a meal. They agree that their situation is all quite depressing. Max moans that he has to do everything on his own now - eat, sleep etc. Maria tells Max that she either needs more money, or to get a job. Max is seeing a solicitor next week - he says the most sensible thing is to separate. Maria is rather upset, but tells Max that she does want a divorce.
Downmarket Pizza Place
Danny and Wendy are finishing their meal. They chat about the other restaurant and Wendy says it's full of celebrities. She's all starry-eyed. She tells Danny if he saves up for a couple of weeks, he'll be able to afford to take her there. (That's all organised, then!)
Phil's flat
Phil and Julie are enjoying their meal. Phil says he feels a bit lonely on his own in the flat. Phil says that maybe Julie should go out with people her own age, but she says she'd rather be with Phil.
Nice restaurant
Max is shocked and asks Maria why she suddenly wants a divorce. Maria says they might as well finish things completely - she's given it a lot of thought and she has her own life to lead. Max says it isn't what he wants - not yet, anyway. Maria says they can sell the house, but Max says he never will. Max asks Maria if she's got another bloke.
Maria shouts at Max and says he's pathetic. Maria says he keeps nagging on about what she did all those years ago and it isn't fair. She's had enough of Max's stupid values. Max says it's hard to forget what she did with Danny running round in the house. Max says he may have had a bit of a fling, but he didn't get anyone pregnant! Maria gets to her feet and shouts at Max, much to the surprise of the other diners. Then she storms out.
Phil's flat
Phil and Julie are hanging out listening to music. Julie asks after Phil's children and he says he misses them, but he doesn't miss his wife. Phil says that they were a classic teenage romance - married too young. His wife was jealous of his success at the bank - she had no plans or ambitions of her own. He tried to include his wife in things, but she used to drink heavily at office functions. Also, she started having affairs with other men. Julie thinks that's awful. Phil says he'll never lose his kids though, just his marriage.
Phil tells Julie that he's thoroughly enjoyed their evening. He tells Julie he'd better take her home. At the door, Julie tells Phil that she doesn't want to go home. (The brazen hussy!)

DAPHNE: Shane, do me a favour and let me decide the guy I'll marry, will you?
Shane says that whoever Daphne marries, the guy will be very lucky. Daphne isn't very impressed with this. She's even less impressed when Shane informs her he's taking Terry out again tonight.
