The Coffee Shop
Mrs Mangel tells Charlene to keep out of it and storms off. Mike is depressed that he only came first because Jane did poorly on purpose. Des suggests that he thinks about Jane - they all treat her like a Martian. They think she's a dag and treat her like a dag. They all look guilty. But Mike says that he's still not taking Jane to the dance.
Outside the Coffee Shop
Daphne has been reassuring Jane and also Helen has arrived for backup. She takes Jane off to her office to freshen up a bit.
Daphne rubs her neck and looks pained. Just then Eileen comes up and greets her. She asks is Des is still angry with her and Daphne says she isn't sure - she'll have to ask him. Daphne admits that she's got a headache, but that it's probably just flu. Eileen is obviously thinking that Daphne might be pregnant(!) but Daphne tells her to forget it.
The Office
Paul is on the phone to Rosemary talking about some business stuff. Apparently he's got to go away for a couple of days.
Helen makes Jane a cup of tea and they have a chat. Jane just doesn't know what she's going to say to Mike. She says she's the most unpopular girl in the school - they wouldn't even let her be in the school choir and noone wants to be in that(!) Paul tells her not to take it personally, but Jane goes on to say she's got loads of nicknames that upset her. Paul tells her that people are just jealous of her brain, but Jane just wants to be normal.
Paul says she's got to surprise them somehow. He says she should go to the school dance and knock their socks off! Helen says she could modify a dress of Julie's and get her hair done. But Jane says she hasn't got a date yet.
Charlene comes in to take Jane to school - she says Mike wil be OK. Jane reluctantly goes off, thanking Helen and Paul for their help.
Ramsays
Madge is tending to Sam. Susan comes out and tells Madge that she's been terrific. She mentions the job and Susan says she must take it - she's feeling much better herself.
Clive comes round to see Susan and Madge takes Sam off to bed. Clive examines Susan and says they still need some more tests, but Susan must take things very easy.
Outside the Coffee Shop
Daphne is still feeling rough and Des looks at her in concern and gives her an aspirin. Daphne says that Des should go back to work, but he says he's taking advantage of being a big-shot to take a long lunch break(!)
Ramsays
Susan is telling Madge that Clive said she was absolutely fine. Madge looks doubtful but Susan says that Madge should take the job. Madge agrees but looks suspicious. Susan is clearly still extremely sick though and when Madge has gone she sits down heavily at the kitchen table.
Clive's
Kate has made Clive a sandwich for lunch and is telling Clive that Graham is doing OK. Clive is mad with Alex and says he'd like to bash him back, but says that sort of talk doesn't help.
The Office
Paul has just drafted in a temporary secretary when Madge comes in. She tells them that she can take the job after all, but Paul explains about the temp. Helen suggests that Paul cancels the temp. He isn't keen to mess the agency around, but agrees. He'll discuss the salary when he gets back from Adelaide. Madge is delighted.
Outside the Coffee Shop
Daphne still feels poorly so Des sends her home.
The Coffee Shop
Eileen is feeding a cat in the kitchen and puts him outside. Then she goes back into the shop. Des isn't too happy to have her around - she upset all the customers last time. He says he can manage perfectly well. Just then a customer orders a Mexican Omelette. This is obviously beyond Des's cooking skills and he tries to persuade him to have a toasted sandwich instead(!) Eileen smiles in triumph and dances off to the kitchen singing a Mexican ditty!
The Office
Helen and Paul are showing Madge the ropes. Helen gives her some filing to do and says the system is common-sense. Madge says she has her own system!
The Coffee Shop
Charlene, Scott, Mike and Jane are sitting at a table and laughing at Des trying to keep up with the orders. Mike goes to help him.
Des asks Mike if he's changed his mind about taking Jane to the dance. Mike hasn't. Just then there's a loud crash in the kitchen and it seems that some of the shelving has come loose!
Clive's
Kate is telling Clive how nice she thinks Susan is. She says that Susan can't stay at Madge's forever. She tells Clive that she, Graham and Vicky are going to go back to the country when Graham gets out of hospital and she'd like Susan and Sam to move in to keep Clive company(!) Clive doesn't think that's a very good idea.
CLIVE: Me? With a baby?
KATE: Takes one to love one!
Kate says that Susan will be able to share expenses but Clive's more worried about baby stuff cluttering everything up! Clive says he'll think about it but doesn't look convinced.
The Coffee Shop
Charlene, Scott and Jane are hanging out and talking about clothes for the dance. Charlene says Jane can come along with Scott and her!
Mrs Mangel comes in and drags Jane off.
Eileen takes her chance to come out of the kitchen.
EILEEN: (brightly) Nell Mangel seems very annoyed about something!
Des wordlessly points at the kitchen.
EILEEN: (dejectedly) Yes, Desmond.
She retreats to the kitchen.
Charlene tells Scott it's no wonder Jane is the way she is with Mrs Mangel putting her down all the time.
A road
Clive comes out of a shop and sees Alex Carter! A car chase ensues. Eventually Alex goes off-road - he gets out and starts to climb up a hill. Clive pursues him. Alex slips and falls. He lies motionless at the bottom of the hill. Then he clutches his leg and begs Clive for help. Clive looks around and see that the area is deserted.
ALEX: You can't just leave me here!
Clive walks off.

Des relents and says that Eileen can come out for five minutes!
The Kitchen
Eileen sniffs some salmon and says she'll put it in a salmon mousse. Mike says that Daphne was going to throw the salmon out but Eileen says it's perfectly OK.
Outside the Coffee Shop
Kate is making another puppet for Vicky. Clive wonders if she's over what happened. Clive says he wonders if Alex Carter knew what he was doing when he threatened Vicky.
Kate tells Clive she can see there's something on his mind. Clive picks up the puppets. Clive admits through the puppets that he saw Alex and chased him to a quarry. He says he had to power to turn and walk away forever, but instead he hauled him to safety, drove him to hospital and called the police. But Clive just feels numb, like he betrayed Graham. He loves his family, but doesn't think he's done any of them justice.
Clive's
Clive is still feeling down, but Kate says that Graham would be proud of his actions with Alex. She reminds him that he was the one who helped Vicky.
Clive tells Vicky that they've caught Alex. She hugs him tightly and gives her the new puppet. It's called Socrates, meaning very wise - just like Kate.

Mrs Mangel comes in to buy a quiche, but they're sold out. Eileen comes out with some salmon mousse, giving one to Des. Eileen tells Mrs Mangel that she thinks Daphne is pregnant(!) Mrs Mangel asks for three more so she can have them for her dinner tonight.
In the kitchen, Eileen gives some of the salmon mousse to the cat.
Ramsays

She tells Madge that Mike got the highest mark for the maths test because Jane let him win on purpose. Madge says it's silly to do badly on purpose. Charlene tells Madge that she only got 53.5% for the test, but Charlene says that at least if she's dumb, she won't put guys off(!)
Robinsons
Helen shows Jane a sparkly blue dress and she goes to try it on.
Lucy opens the door to Mrs Mangel who is looking for Jane. Jane comes out wearing the dress and Mrs Mangel tells her not to waste Helen's time - you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. Jane translates for Lucy - "When you're as ugly as me, you might as well put a paper bag over your head and be done with it." She goes to change, upset. Helen glowers at Mrs Mangel.
Ramsay Street
It's raining!!!!!!!!! Jane meet Scott, Charlene and Mike on the street. Mrs Mangel is just off to her lollipop lady's job but says she's got a bit of a stomachache. Scott tells Jane that he hopes she's going to come to the dance with him and Charlene. Charlene is impressed with Scott's compassion.

MIKE: Here she comes, everyone order salmon mousse or we'll never hear the end of it!
Eileen takes their order and they all order salmon mousse, apart from Charlene who orders a salad sandwich. She says she doesn't like fish.
Eileen stalks off to the kitchen.

Clive, Kate and Vicky have been visiting Graham who is feeling much better. Vicky says she'll miss Clive and Lucy when they go back to the country. Kate starts haranguing Clive about taking in Susan and Sam again. He says he's quite pleased to be back in medicine again.
The back of the Coffee Shop
Eileen, Des and Mike find the cat that Eileen has been feeding dead in a bin bag. Eileen says at least he had a last decent meal with the salmon mousse. Des and Mike do the maths - Mrs Mangel is sick as well. Eileen says it couldn't possibly be her mousse, but Des says it's the only explanation.
DES: We sold twenty-six salmon mousses today. And we've got one extremely dead cat.

EILEEN: It's not my fault the cat died!
DES AND MIKE: Ssshhhhh!!!
Eileen insists that the customers loved the mousse. Des asks her who ordered it and she starts to make a list. Des realises that Daphne had one, but may not have eaten it yet. He rushes off to ring her, but there's no answer. He runs out to look for her.
Ramsay Street
Daphne is just leaving Clive's when Des rushes up. Apparently she might have hepatitis. Des has the salmon mousse under his jumper - he tells her they've run out as a cover. Daphne says she's eaten some of it already, much to Des's horror.
Mrs Mangel comes up clutching her stomach. Daphne helps her into Clive's house for him to have a look at her.
The Coffee Shop
Eileen is still serving the mousse but Des says he'll be up for mass murder and makes her put it in the bin. Eileen is still protesting the salmon mousse's innocence. Des doesn't know what to do, but Eileen says to just bury the cat and forget about it! Des says as long as they keep it quiet from Mrs Mangel they might be OK.
Clive's
Clive tells Mrs Mangel that her pulse is very fast. He says she'll have to go to hospital - it's more serious than just a virus. He rings Len to pack her a few things.
Ramsays

Ramsays
Susan is getting ready to leave. Clive comes to the door saying he's come to see how Susan is. He sees her bags packed and she says she has to go - it's no good staying here because it's not fair on Madge. Lassiters grounds
Des shows Mike where he buried the cat - they are exhuming the cat so the vet can do an autopsy! As they are digging up the cat, Ernie the groundsman comes back and asks what's going on. Des admits that there's a dead cat in the box. Ernie nearly chokes when he smells it.
Garden of the Ramsays
Susan is taking in the washing when Madge comes to have a word with Susan.
The Coffee Shop
Des tells Eileen to make herself scarce but they're too busy. They are all worried about Mrs Mangel and waiting for the autopsy on the cat.
Jane comes in and they all look at her guiltily. Des asks how Mrs Mangel is but apparently she is unconscious and has had an operation, but will be alright. They are all concerned but then Jane says it's appendicitis. Des, Mike and Eileen all start to laugh in relief and say how marvellous it is!
Ramsays
Madge is trying to reason with Susan about leaving, but Susan can't understand why Madge wants her to say. Madge says she's thinking of Sam. Madge says she could take up Clive's offer - at least there'd still be people around to help her look after Sam. Susan says it would be hard for Madge with her next door, but Madge says she can put aside her feelings. Then Madge plays her trump card and says that Susan shouldn't take Charlene's half-brother away from her. Fred has done enough damage and he doesn't have to win that one too.
The Coffee Shop
Jane is waiting for Scott and Charlene, but Mike says that they're at home working on their assignment for school. Mike tells Jane that he's not taking Sharon to the dance - someone else asked her first. But before they can continue the conversation, Des calls Mike over. He's had the results from the vet and they're in the clear - the cat died of natural causes. Eileen is pleased and says she'll make another batch of salmon mousse but Des says she will do so over his dead body!
Robinsons
Scott, Charlene and Mike are waiting for Jane to appear in the dress Helen has been altering for her. Scott asks Helen how much it would cost to hire a limo for the evening. Helen says $100, but it's free to people going to the school dance. Scott doesn't want it to be free though, and they talk about taking the bus. Helen says that they have special rates for new customers, and it's not very far, so it would only cost $20, including uniformed chauffer!
Jane is about to come out.
CHARLENE: Hey guys, whatever she looks like, just tell her she looks great, OK?
SCOTT AND MIKE: OK
Jane comes out in the dress. She has also let her hair down and taken her glasses off - she looks fantastic. Charlene and the guys are gobsmacked - Mike, especially.
JANE: Well? What do you think?
