Hipolita along with another prisoner are taken to the town square where they're to be punished for their crimes. A crowd including Catalina, Critobal, Ada and Sara witness the punishments. The first lady admitted to being a thief and is whipped several times as Hipolita is tied. Marcos tells Cristobal he has to give the signal. Apprehensive at first he agrees saying it'll be what God wants.
The charges against Hipolita are read aloud as she's tied up to the poles. She's whipped several times as Marcos waits for Cristobal's signal. Cristobal blesses his wife, looks at Marcos and gives the signal. He, Marcos, Iginio and all his men storm the stage and stop the proceeding. At that moment Luis arrives and orders the punisher to stop whipping Marcos. He tells Friar Alvaro he got a pardon from the New King. He tells him he doesn't believe him and that all will be punished for what they all did and that Hipolita's punishment has to continue. Luis points his sword at him when a soldier arrives and tells everyone the New King has arrived. Luis unties Hipolita as the New King talks to the crowd and tells them that faith isn't won by cruelty but by compassion and if the inquisition has been abolished in Spain it will be abolished in the New Spain from that moment much to Friar Alvaro's anger. The crowd claps as Hipolita is consoled by her loved ones.
At the palace Modesta tells Juana what happened in the square and that Eloisa's father demands an annulment of his daughter's marriage to Diego. She gives her two letters, one for the Alderman and one for Luis. She tells her it's time as Modesta pours all the contents of the medicine bottle and tells Modesta to return to her people. Juana drinks the poison. At the DeLara palace Cristobal tends to Hipolita's wounds as Luis apologizes for not arriving sooner. She tells him she deserved a punishment for her crimes as Luis says that's not a punishment, that's cruelty. Aurelio arrives and tells Luis that Antonio is near death and wants to see Hipolita. 'Dying' she asks. Luis tells her what happened with Diego and she says she wants to see him but Cristobal tells her he has to cure her wounds first.
At the palace Diego tells his servants to bring him wine but they deny to when Modesta arrives with a glass of wine and he begins to drink it, and asks for Juana. He continues to drink it and says it's sour and throws it. Hipolita arrives to see Antonio. Perla leaves as Luis bows to the man and excuses himself. Hipolita thanks Antonio for what she did for him and he explains what Diego did to him. He asks her if they set her free and she says she was but doesn't tell him what was done to her in the sqaure. He tells her he wants to say goodbye to her before he leaves. She blames herself for what happened as he tells her he committed the first mistake. He tells her his biggest problem in life is that he always wanted everyone's approval; first his mother's and then hers and he never understood that all he needed was his own. Hipolita tells him that he never accepted himself like she and Perla did. He tells her she did but fell in love with Luis and knows he's a good man and sincerely loves her. He also tells her he loved her in his own way as she tells him she did als.
Modesta cries as Juana slowly dies in front of her and prepares her for the end. Perla cries to Marcos about what Cristobal told her about her child and all she wanted was a decent life. Luis tells her they all have a right to a decent life but you have to work hard to ahieve it. She cries over her situation as Marcos feels for her. Antonio asks Hipolita for a last wish; take care of her child and she swears to him she will. At that moment he dies and Hipolita cries over him.
Juana arrives in Diego's room and lies next to him. She asks him for forgiveness as he sleeps. Modesta touches his feet and realizes he's dead. A few moments later Juana dies. Modesta gets ready to go out as she gives a servant a letter for Luis and then tells Isabel that Juana and Diego are asleep. She says she's going to confront them and is horrified when she finds them dead. Modesta gives the letter to the Alderman where Juana confesses what she did years before. Modesta tells him she's also guilty and that Luis just learned about it. He tells her Juana committed a crime as she tells him she'll pay for her and tells him she poisoned Juana and Diego. He has her arrested and orders a trial but changes him mind and orders her hanged.
Luis and Cristobal arrive at the palace and ask for Isabel. He enters Diego's room as he kneels next to Diego. Cristobal asks him if he's okay and he says that he now realizes seeing thrm together that she loved her son more than anything else. His friend tells him she did it for another reason; greed. Luis says what they say is true; that death purifies you because all the rancor and anger he had for both of them is gone and now only feels pity. He then reads the letter where Juana tells him she always loved him despite having a tough exterior. She also worried about Diego's jealousy towards him but confesses that she wished her son would have been him. She asks him for forgiveness knowing that neithrt he nor Carlos ever will. He burns the letter as he cries. The funeral for Juana and Diego take place with everyone present.
Later, Don Epifanio. Sara and Dagoberto testify saeeing Carlos' son with a burn on his leg as a child. The Alderman tells all present that by Luis' petition the matter won't be made public and names Luis the new Count of Guevara. Perla tells Marcos to thank Luis for taking care of Antonio's funeral. She asks him how Diego and Juana died and he tells her Juana had cancrun and Diego died from the wounds he sustained from Antonio. She says she's now alone as he tells her she can always count on him and she thanks him and hugs him. The Alderman officially names Luis, Count of Guevara as his friends Felipe and Cristobal congratulate him.
Three months later Felipe tells Carmela their mourning period is over. They reiterate their love for each other. The next day Hipolita and Luia are married in a lavish ceremony and the reception is held in the public square. Isabel comments they should have had a huge reception but Cristobal tells her it wouldn't be prudent as she tells him who would care as everyone laughs at her. Ada tells Cletilde she's happy. Felipe tells Carmela he feels like a proud father as she gives him the news that she's pregnant and he yells it to everyone. Luis congratulates them as everyone claps. The reception continues as everyone dances. Luis and Hipolita dance and then change partners with spectators in the crows.
Narrator;The Count and Countess of Guevara are happy to share a dance in the square with everyone. All the generation will remember this day with happiness at every sunrise. Today is a day to share all the wine and food in a fraternal union.
Marcos visits Perla at Antonio's and says Dagoberto told her Hipolita and Luis were married. Marcos offers her to take care of her and her child. He tells her he never knew his father but Felipe raised him like he was so why should he be any different. She cries at his generosity and tells him she's always cared for him as Dagoberto leaves them alone. At the palace Hipolita tells Luis that Rafael finally fell asleep. He asks her how the baby is and she says she's calm so it must be a girl. Luis tells her she's not like her mother because she's never calm. He tells her he loves both his women and they kiss.
At the ranch Asuncion leaves Francisco and stands up to him saying she's tired of him. He tells her if she leaves not to return and she says she won't. Months later, Hipolita is giving birth. Asuncion tells Catalina to leave but she says she wants to know what she's in for. Luis waits inpatiently as Hipolita gives birth to a girl. Luis is congratulated by his friends as he neets his new daughter and tells everyone he's naming her Aurora and that it was Hipolita's idea. She tells him that she represents a new dawning of a new day and Luis tells her that she is (an Alborada), thanks her and kisses her as their friends and families look on.
Hipolita gets her daughter ready for her baptism when Asuncion tells her everything is ready. Asuncion confesses to her daughter that she's a grand woman. She tells her that at first she was afraid of her strength and determination but now admires her saying she;s the best mother she's ever known. She also tells her she regrets not fighting for her like she fought for Rafael. Hipolita tells her the circumstances were different and says it doesn't make a differende and she tells her if she can turn back time she would have kept her. Hipolita cries as Asuncion begs her daughter for forgiveness for being a bad mother as she says she never did anything that wasn't the best for her.
Ada informs Asuncion that Francisco wnts to see her. He begs her to return to him, that he needs her and has always cared for her. She tells him he never showed her as he admits that Hipolita and Andres have showed him a big lesson in life. She agrees to return to him on several conditions; she'll leave on the first insult hemakes to her and that she wants to spend several months at time with her daughters and he agrees.
At the reception Usabel is surprised at Francisco's gesture towards Asuncion. Marcos gives Perla her son as she shows him off. Sara and Victoria are in attendance as are Andres and a pregnant Marina. Everyone claps when Luis, Hipolita with Rafael and their daughter along with Cristobal, Catalina and their son arrive. Everyone takes their place when Aurelio arrives and whisphers something in Cristobal's ear. He asks him if he's sure and then takes the stage and asks for the public's attention. He tells them they will soon be a free country and they all begin to cheer and yell 'Equality'. 'Freedom'. 'Indepence'. THE END
