Gasca returns to the palace. Juana talks to the Alderman and he tells her of the conversation he had with Luis and suggests she talk to Hipolita. He also tells her Hipolita might have more children and give Rafael to them. The festivities continue as Madgalena asks Isabel (while they do their business) who Rafael's mother is but she denies to tell saying she needs Luis' permission.
Diego talks to Antonio about his sexual preferences and lies that Luis told him. He tells him Luis wants to take his wife from him. He becomes angry when Diego asks him why he wants her if she cheated on him and he denies she did. Diego laughs and says he got revenge for him by sleeping with Esperanza and getting her pregnant. Francisco asks Isabel about La Poderosa and she promises she'll give her his message. Sara tells Victoria to do what she wants towards Gasca but to remember that it will live a mark and Victoria tells her she was marked a long time ago. Sara blames Juana for their disgrace.
Ada and Hipolita talk to Celia when Antonio arrives and she tells him of Luis' petition. He denies to let Luis see Rafael and once again he asks her if she slept with Luis. She tells him that she did because her son exists and he tells her he's asking if it happened after that and she tells him she wants to talk to him but when he returns. Ada begs Hipolita not to tell Antonio she slept with Luis because he might throw her out. She says he won't because he has his own reasons not to.
Esperanza tells Mirtha she's going out and nothing and no one's stopping her. Isabel asks Luis if he saw Hipolita and he tells her what they talked about when Aurelio arrives. He tells her not to leave the palace to Rafael and that she won't die anytime soon because she's as strong as a horse. She then tells Aurelio to put the palace in Luis' name saying Luis called her a mule. Aurelio reminds her that Luis called her a horse and not a mule. Marina tells Isabel that Andres will never accept her for what happened with Diego. Juana asks Diego who he chose as a wife and he tells her he chooses the chubby one since she was the youngest one and has twin boys. He asks her why Luis didn't attend and she becomes bothered when he tells her that he asked Antonio if he was gay. Vicente carries Esperanza to a carriage.
Felipe asks Carmela about her father who worked with Leopoldo and asks her if she knew of a woman named Sara and he's surprised when she tells him she died in the same fire as the Count. She also tells him that Juana didn't fire her father after Leopolodo died but after Carlos died. Modesta informs Juana that Esperanza went out. In the meantime Vicente carries Esperanza to Friar Alvaro's office. At the palace Luis greets Caridad and Santiago who arrive to see their sister and learns his wife isn't home. Juana talks to Modesta when Luis arrives and asks her if she knows where his wife could be.
Marina begs Isabel not to tell her mother the truth but Victoria tells her she knows when Luis arrives and asks his aunt if he knows where his wife might be. Esperanza confesses the truth to Friar Alvaro in that she lied about seeing the Virgen and that Diego was the father of her baby and not her husband. She faints after she tells him all she wanted a child so Luis wouldn't leave her. Hipolita tells Ada that the only one that makes her feel safe is Luis. At that moment Rafael runs away from her and Luis grabs him. He tells Hipolita that he and Santiago are looking for Esperanza and that he'll see her that night.
Luis learns that Esperanza is gravely ill and asks Mirtha why they're there and she tells him Esperanza wanted to ask for forgiveness. He tells her they have to take her to the palace but Mirtha says that she can't leave the church. Luis talks to Friar Alvaro and he's taken aback when he tells him Diego got his wife pregnant. He runs out as Hipolita sees him and tells Ada that something happened. Luis arrives at the palace and asks for Diego. He's talking to Juana when Luis rushes in and calls him a dog and beats him to a pulp and tells him what Esperanza just did. He tells him she's dying as Juana says she's crazy. Luis tells her Diego has to die and she tells him he has to kill her first. 'Has it come to that mother or should I even be calling you mother' he asks. She's surprised but tells him she has to see Friar Alvaro as Diego's carried off to his room.
Felipe arrives and Luis tells him to look for Cristobal and tells him his wife has been arrested after admitting that Diego got her pregnant. Diego tells Gasca to kill Luis as Modesta asks Juana what Luis meant when he said 'Should I even call you mother'? She tells her she'll worry about that later since the most important thing is to clear Diego's name.
At the DeLara palace Catalina tells Hipolita how happy she is with Cristobal when Asuncion arrives. Catalina tells her mother of a possible arranged marriage between Andres and Marina. She tells her she's Diego's lover as Catalina corrects her and tells her she was raped. She then says her father won't approve it as Hipolita rolls her eyes. Felipe arrives and tells Cristobal about Esperanza's confession. Aurelio informs Catalina and all the women except Asuncion are shocked to learn who the father of Esperanza's baby was. Juana tells Felipe what she plans to say when Cristobal arrives and she tells him they have to have the same story. The men stare at each other when she says that Diego is innocent.
Catalina tells Asuncion that Diego is guilty as much as Esperanza is and reminds her that Esperanza accused Andres of raping her and if Luis and Cristobal hadn't believed him he would be rotting in a jail or Luis would have asked for a satisfaction. Francisco arrives and learns what happened but doesn't let on that he knew. Friar Alvaro questions Juana and Luis. Juana defends Diego as Luis and Cristobal remain quiet. Cristobal offers a solution: since Esperanza is near death he wants to take her to his sister's convent and if she survives she'll be punished and if she doesn't let her die with some dignity.
